The Lion King, The Musical

The Lion King, The Musical

The Lion King, The Musical

Beautiful! Engaging! Spectacular! Elegant!  I’m not sure exactly what superlatives adequately describe The Lion King, The Musical.  Needless to say, it was a musical like no other.  Now, I understand that my Broadway musical experiences are rather limited — The Phantom of the Opera, The King and I, and Camelot — but I can’t imagine another musical with the vibrancy of color, costume, and performance that this musical offers.

Several months ago, Barb had come home from work and told me that The Lion King was coming to town.  We had wanted to see it for a long time, but had missed it each time it had previously arrived.  Being the loving husband that I am I quickly went online to determine whether or not I could procure some tickets.  At that time the tickets were only on pre-sale.  You’ve gotta love the Internet, however.  After a quick search, I was able to find the proper pre-sale code — five minutes later, I had secured five row-two tickets in the left loge. Well, I’ve finally acquiesced to my long standing desire to run a marathon.  It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long, long time — particularly a Rock ‘N’ Roll Marathon.  I’ve always found convenient reasons, however, not to train: raising children, working around the house, grading papers, an aversion to the pain incurred during a long run.

Despite the fact I was an avid runner before I got married, I’ve never felt the urge or inspiration to take it up again; that was, however, until July of 2008.  During the summer, I was experiencing debilitating soreness in my hips.  At the time I chalked it up to kicking bags and people at Taekwondo.  I took a week off from Taekwondo — to no avail.  Because the pain persisted, I went and saw my general practitioner.  Read More…

I recently completed my latest paper. Now, this paper didn’t take too long to write. Having said that, however, I find it interesting the degree to which I sweat over these papers. Sweat isn’t intended to imply that I worry about a grade — I always do well — but rather simply writing a well thought out paper. 400 – 500 word papers aren’t too long — a page and a half to two pages. Nevertheless, trying to concisely convey my thoughts, experiences, and newly acquired knowledge and skills in a limited space proves challenging each week. Read More…

If any of you who read this blog are friends of mine on Facebook, you are probably familiar with a link to a YouTube video I posted on Valentine’s Day from the folks at Periodic Table of Videos. The video (below) is called Chocolate and Roses.

Welcome to SumQuodSum 2.0

Sadly, I must admit that I have grown tired of the limitations of BlogEngine.net.  I’ve tried staying firmly planted in the .NET world, but to no avail.  I feel a little dirty leaving BlogEngine.net behind for my previous (and newly re-adopted) blog publishing system.  I don’t know why?  Perhaps it’s because the guys at BlogEngine did quite a bit with a limited development team and supporting community.  Maybe it’s because of my desire to avoid php-driven apps on the Xumatech servers.  Who knows?!  Read More…

Wow.  I’ve completed one course already and have started the second.  All that remains ahead of me are 14 more classes and a year-long administrative internship.  Whew.

Seems as though the only thing I blog about anymore is something topical to educational leadership.  There are really many more things that I want to post, but this will have to do for the time being.  I’m hoping to spend more time on the weekends and impending holidays writing about music, fitness, and upcoming trips. Well, graduate school has certainly put a damper on adding entries to my blog.  Admittedly, my new addiction to Facebook has taken valuable time, as well.  Regardless, it’s time to add another post.

This post is actually the fourth of five papers I will have written for my first graduate class.  It’s based on a case study of a school that needs some cultural re-tooling.  Culture, as I’ve come to learn, is probably the most important element of any school.  Meridian Middle School is an example of a school that had a stellar beginning, built on a solid foundation of service learning, high student standards, and a commitment to staff excellence through ongoing professional development.  Meridian’s glory days are now behind and the school is struggling to unify.
